Henry Ford started tinkering with a prototype engine for the horseless carriage in a friend’s garage at 58 Bagley Street , Detroit .
Walt Disney started making cartoons almost as soon as he arrived in Los Angeles in 1923. He was staying with his uncle and filmed the cartoons in his uncle’s garage.
One of the most famous garage start-up companies is that of the two gentleman who rented a garage in 1938 at 237 Addison Avenue , Palo Alto . When they first started, they had no idea what the company was going to do; they just thought it would be fun to start a company. They started to produce audio oscillators and Hewlett-Packard was born. The garage is known as “the birthplace of Silicon Valley .”
More recently, in 1975, Steve Jobs and Stephen Wozniak started Apple Computers in Jobs’ garage.
